The latest edition of the Call to Mission series, Modern War 4, confirmed that it would be launched on 23 October 2026, landing on PS5/PC and XSS/XS platform, while moving on to announce that it would not land on the mainframe of the previous generation (Xbox One and PS4).

According to the industry analysis body S&P, this move will lead to a 4.3 per cent decline in the potential sales of Modern War 4. The report states that, although Modern War 4 will simultaneously land on the Switch 2 platform, which is the first time that the Mission Call series has landed as a host to heaven since 2013, it is still not possible to compensate for the loss of users from previous generations.
According to S&P analyst Neil Barber, citing internal company data, the current global number of sub-generational mainframes is approximately 147.5 million, down 5.6 per cent from the market for Black Action 7, which performed poorly last year. At the same time, the sales of secondary hosts will also be affected by the continued increase in the cost of hardware, in particular, the higher prices of the sub-national hosts in Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

S&P projects about 36 million active PS4 and Xbox One players by the end of 2026, compared to about 33.9 million new sales by Switch 2. The analyst noted that Microsoft had decided to send a mission call to Switch “because it had made such a commitment to the regulatory body in order to complete its acquisition of SVC”.
A report sent to clients by Neil Barber shows that, while abandoning the previous generation of mainframes allowed developers to do more on the higher capabilities of PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, “Switch 2 admissions become more complicated because they are far less effective than the next generation hosts”. He said: “We expect that Switch 2’s more modern framework will make it easier to expand, but developers still need to devote their energy to optimizing the game for lower functional specifications.”

The Call to Mission series spanned many host generations, and even five years after its listing, support for PS4 had not been abandoned. Following the weakness of Operation Black 7, moving vision changed the distribution plan for the series. Recently, as part of a series of changes for the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, the new Call to Mission game was removed from the Game Pass subscription service.
