According to the Wall Street Journal, SpaceX, under the banner of Elon Mask, has agreed to invest $2 billion in its artificial intelligence company XAI, accounting for nearly half of the $5 billion equity financing in the last round of XAI. This investment brought the combined value of XAI and X (former Twitter) to $113 billion and deepened the synergy of the Mask-based enterprise, which XAI ‘ s Grok chat robot has been used in Starlink ‘ s guest service and plans to integrate Optimus in Tesla.

According to the Financial Times, XAI was preparing a new round of financing, with a target valuation of up to $200 billion (approximately RMB 1.43 trillion), after having completed $10 billion in financing (with debt and equity in half). However, Mask posted on platform X denying that XAI was seeking funding, calling it “a well-funded company”. XAI and SpaceX did not comment on the report. The combined value of xAI and X was $113 billion, almost three times greater than the value of $40 billion in the December 2024 C round of financing of $6 billion. Grok 4 has supported Starlink and plans to embed Optimus robots in Tesla. Investors disclosed that SpaceX and XAI would explore more operational synergies, such as AI-driven optimization of space missions. In response to Tesla’s question as to whether or not to invest in xAI, Mask responded in X: “If it was up to me, it would have been long ago, subject to the approval of the board of directors and shareholders”.

According to the Financial Times, XAI plans to finance an additional $10 billion, with a target value of $200 billion, which is double the current valuation of $113 billion. In December 2024, XAI completed a $6 billion C round of financing (investments include Fidelity, BlackRock, Sequoia, NVIDIA, AMD) with an estimated value of $40 billion. In early July 2025, XAI financed $10 billion through a mix of debt and equity. If it reaches $200 billion, XAI will be among the most valuable private enterprises in the world, compared to SpaceX (valued at $35 billion in 2024). SpaceX ‘ s investment of $2 billion in xAI marked a further integration of the maskian enterprise ‘ s ecology, with a combined valuation of X and X amounting to $113 billion, and the expansion of Grok ‘ s application from Starlink to Optimus in Tesla, demonstrating AI ‘ s potential in the space and robotic fields. The rapid growth of xAI reflects the intense competition in the AI market and the parallel trend between open sources and proprietary models. XAI needs to address regulatory, technical and reputational challenges, but its high valuation and Mask resource integration capacity makes it promising to be an AI leader.
